Everyone knows that protecting your skin from the sun is important. Sunscreen, wide-brimmed hats, and staying in the shade are all tried and true ways to keep from getting burned, but what if you’re wanting that extra amount of protection on top of the SPF?
A regular long-sleeve shirt can help, but a long-sleeve shirt with an ultraviolet protection factor (UPF) number does an even better job. A UPF number indicates how much UV radiation reaches your skin through the fabric. UPF 50 would block 98% of the sun's rays while only allowing 2%, or 1/50th, to reach your skin. A UPF rating of 30-49 is considered very good, while 50+ is considered excellent.
