What Are the Pantone Colours Of The Year?

Pantone colours are unique colour codes that identify specific shades. It originated back in 1960’s and ever since then, pantone colour matching became the easiest way to communicate colour choices and classifications. Each year, Pantone – who is best known for their colour matching system – nominates a colour shade that best defines the year. Pantone calls this the “Pantone Colour of the Year“. For the second time, Pantone has announced two colours to be the Pantone Colour of the Year for 2021. So what are the Pantone colours of the year for 2021? On December 9th of 2020, Pantone has announced that the 2021 Colours of the Year are Illuminating & Ultimate Gray. Illuminating was picked as the colour encapsulates something sunny and friendly while Ultimate Gray was chosen as it represents optimism and warmth. Lets dig a little deeper into each colour shade, shall we?

Pantone 13-0647 Illuminating

Illuminating is described as “a bright and cheerful yellow sparkling with vivacity; a warming yellow shade imbued with solar power”. As the colour of the sun is yellow, it helps people stay optimistic and counter seasonal depression during the colder days or when we’re just stuck at home due to Covid-19. On top of that, yellow is also becoming a very popular choice in younger demographics for apparel and design options. In fact, bright yellow is used to describe Gen Z’s uplifting personality.

Whether your logo or other clothing pieces that you wear consist of lighter shades, you can never go wrong with choosing bright yellow to compliment your brand and make your logo stand out. Although Illuminating was supposed to be the only Colour of the Year, Pantone felt like there was something missing to define the present time. Ultimate Gray was described as stable and it represents durability. Not only that, but gray is the ultimate neutral colour. Gray is never out of style and can easily be paired with other colours. Gray can be worn from top to bottom so the options for clothing are endless! It is the perfect base for your wardrobe that can also be very sophisticated at times. From caps to pants, and even your shoes, gray will always look good, no matter what!
